Chores is a multi-disciplinary, artisan-led studio in New York founded by textile artist Joy Mao. The brand centers the labor that usually goes unseen: the hands, time, and process behind everyday objects. Each year a cohort of artisans makes a small collection of apparel, jewelry, printed matter, and homegoods, all built around a single story. The 2025 collection, The Boy and The River, grew out of a short story by Shaina Yang.
As a freelance designer and Webflow developer, I designed and built the Chores site on Webflow. Chores wanted a site that gave the makers and their process as much room as the products, so photography and writing come first and shopping comes second.

The homepage opens on a full-bleed river video with the studio's mission set in serif type.
Each collection gets its own editorial page that puts the artisans and their process alongside the finished objects. I used a masonry layout so portraits, process shots, and finished pieces of different sizes and orientations could sit together like a studio scrapbook.

Further down the collection page, a masonry grid mixes portraits, process shots, and finished pieces.
Chores wanted Webflow's design freedom and Shopify's ease of managing inventory and sales. I connected the two with Shopify's Buy Button SDK and custom code. Products, sizes, and the cart live in Shopify, while every page and product layout is designed in Webflow. Shoppers pick a size, add to cart, and a slide-out cart opens without ever leaving the site.

Choosing a size and adding 40 The Current to the cart.

The shop is organized by Current Collection, Garments, Accessories, Home, and Texts.

Beyond the shop, the site introduces the people behind the work through About, Team, and Events pages, plus a sign-up page for the upcoming 2026 collection, The Girl and the Goose.

The shop, a product page, and the cart on mobile.

I'm available for freelance projects and long-term contract work. Tell me a little about what you need and I'll get back to you soon.
